Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo | Donmono no Sakai food fresh tuna donburi miso soup and grated yama imo
Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo, Donmono no Sakai is donburi restaurant located in Akihabara.
Donburi is Japanese dish made of cooked rice with raw or fried fish or other ingredients on top. Donburi is very popular & delicious Japanese dish.
Donburi with fresh tuna was something I wanted to eat, so I went to Akihabara to try
it.
Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo | Donmono no Sakai- outlook
Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo, Donmono no Sakai is pretty small restaurant located in small building, so actually it has mostly door as major part of entrance.
Over the door there is big white sign board with restaurant logo.
Part of entrance is covered by brown curtain with printed text in kanji and from the left hangs white Japanese lantern with black big kanji. It looks stylish.
In front of the restaurant there are located illuminated smaller information boards with menu and some menu is pinned also from the right side of door.
I should mention also that there was glass display case with plastic replica dishes served in restaurant.
It is not fancy outlook at all, but I liked lantern and brown curtain.
Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo | Donmono no Sakai- order & pay
First you must make decision what you want to eat.
In front of restaurant there are menus in Japanese, but with some pictures, so it is easier to choose.
Even better, there are also models of lunch sets displayed in front of restaurant so you can see what you will get. I decided in this way.
If you do not speak Japanese, better choose your dish outside, because inside of restaurant there are menus as well, placed on walls, but unfortunately in Japanese only and without pictures.
If you choose your dish, enter to restaurant and when serving lady appears, just tell her or show her what you want.
My advice is to try to copy the name of dish you want (simply take a piece of paper and pen and try to draw what you see…) and show your writing to serving lady.
I do like this sometimes and it works, especially is kanji are simple and in case of hiragana it is even easier.
You pay to serving lady after you finish your meal. She will collect money and give you change, eventually.
Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo | Donmono no Sakai-interior & atmosphere
First thing you see when you enter to Donmono no Sakai is U shaped counter with seats around. Kitchen area is separated from customer so you can not see chef during work.
. There are menus on walls and some decorations near entrance to kitchen and TV. Customers can watch TV programmes during eating. It is simple interior but has few nice details which I liked.
Atmosphere is easy going and peaceful. It was like so because I came to eat after lunch peak. Serving lady is very nice and friendly. People eat, watch TV, think or read.
In this restaurant you can feel comfortable, but you may have problem with placing your legs when you seat.
There is a bit little space between counter wall and seat.
Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo | Donmono no Sakai- food & service
Donburi is speciality of this restaurant. Because lunch set was not expensive at all I chose donburi set with fresh tuna on bed of rice, miso soup & grated yama imo (Japanese sticky potato).
First I got cup of mugi cha- barley tea. Very refreshing.
Later my lunch set was served.
I had bowl of rice with raw maguro (tuna) marinated in soy sauce and sake, chopped spring onions and pickled Japanese radish (daikon) on top.
To eat this I had to add grated yama imo and mix with rice and tuna.

I was suspicious if it tastes good, but actually I was excellent.
Miso soup was made from white miso and there were pieces of abura –age ( deep fried tofu puff) floating inside.
Marinated tuna tasted divine, miso soup was not too salty and balanced in taste and I enjoyed my meal a lot.
This is nice combination, raw tuna and spring onions. Actually I had impression I eat kind of tartar steak.
Normally I have problem with finishing big portions of rice, but this time I ate all very fast.
Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo | Donmono no Sakai-comments
Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo, Donmono no Sakai is a very simple place, but food there is worthy to try.
It was fresh, very well done and rich in taste.
I enjoyed relaxed atmosphere and food. It is possible to order unagi domburi as well. The only problem was that my legs were too long and I could not place them under counter. But I managed somehow, so it was not big deal at all. You may have some problems with order, but it can be fixed too. You can come there with your Japanese friends.
I do recommend this place.
